Medication Management

My Friends House offers Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT), which is the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders and prevent opioid overdose. We combine our Intensive Outpatient Program with MAT to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

We understand that Medicated Assisted Treatment has a higher success rate when an outpatient program and individual therapy coincides with the prescribed medication.

Why Medication Therapy?

Our clients are closely evaluated by the Medical Director to determine if Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) is something that could assist them in long term recovery and relapse prevention. We understand the mental and physical changes that clients may go through when first stepping into recovery. We employ a conprehensive review that is targeted to an actual or potential medication problem. However, whether compreshensive or targeted, the patient's medications are evaluated in the context of the patient as a whole.

Benefits of MAT

Although a MAT program is not fit for all clients, My Friends House feels it is important to offer assistance to those who may need it. MAT has been proven to help those who are struggling “get over the hump” of their cravings and to focus more on recovery. The Medical Director on staff does an intensive evaluation to see if each individual client will benefit from Medicated Assisted Treatment. Medications that are offered at our facility are Suboxone, Subutex, and Vivitrol. Medication can help patients avoid the symptoms of withdrawal which can sometimes be severe.

Medication can ...
      Reduce the risk of overdose
      Increase treatment retention
      Reduce cravings
      Reduce criminal activity
      Improve social functioning
      Increase positive birth outcome

A systematic process of identifying medication-related problems.
